A New Year, a New Blog (More Appropriately Titled: About Me)

A new year usually brings along new beginnings. Many people choose to use January 1st as a day to start over, to start fresh. Really, we could choose any day of the year to have a fresh start. For me, January 1st holds no true significance. It represents that a new year has begun.  I am sure that I will encounter many "new" challenges, goals, and adventures in the year 2010, but for now, I will go ahead and partake in one new thing this January 1st (although I am a few days late), with that being a new blog.

I have had blogs in the past for personal use or for classes, but as a journalism student who aspires to one day have my work read by millions, I figure that it is time for me start getting used to having my writings read by the public.

So, where to begin? Seeing as how my "about me" section is lacking any information about myself, I think that I will begin there. For those readers who don't know me, this entry is for you to get a small sense of who I am. Obviously, you can only learn so much about me from one entry, but maybe if you continue to read future entries, you might get a better picture of who I am, what I desire, and who I would like to become. For those of you reading this who already know me, you might become a little bored, but don't stop here. You might be surprised. For there are many who "know me", but how much do you actually know?

I am a 21 year old college student.... Is that who I am though? People so often define themselves by what they do, "I am a businessman," "I am an artist," "I am a mother," but does that really define who we are. So let me try this again... I am a 21 year old girl who is just trying to tackle this thing that we call life. I am a Christian. By this, I mean that I believe Jesus, the only son of God, was sent to Earth to die for the sins of man. I follow the Bible, and strive live a life more like the one that Jesus lived. I believe that Jesus is the "way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), but I respect all religions. We are all searching for something, some of us just haven't found it yet. I find other religions intriguing, and I do not, and will not ever look down on someone because of their religion, or lack of religion. I am a daughter, a sister, a friend, a girlfriend, a student, a youth leader, an artist, and an athlete, but again, these things don't define who I am. I am still trying to figure that one out myself. I know a lot about myself, about my desires, dreams, goals, and about who I would like to become, but I think that all of us are working on who we are throughout our entire lifetime.

I realize that I am sort of putting myself out there in this blog, but isn't that what people do in blogs? Isn't a blog a place to express oneself and one's opinions?

I also realize that above I said that I will try and give readers a small sense of who I am in this entry. I will keep the word small in mind throughout the remainder of this post. I wouldn't want to scare all of you off after just one post. I have to remember that this a is a blog... not a book. Sometimes I just get carried away.

So a little bit more about myself before I call it quits until next time...

I volunteer in  youth ministry, and I love it. It is a blessing to be a mentor in the lives of students. I am a full time student at the University of Arkansas, majoring in Anthropology and Journalism. I am about to start my 2nd semester of my 4th year. If all goes as planned, I will be finished next fall. I am very interested in people and in different cultures. I would love to one day work for National Geographic. It is my dream to travel the world, study it, study it's people, and then write about it. I love the outdoors, and outdoor activities such as rock climbing (a relatively new hobby, but one that I thoroughly enjoy). I love to travel, and hope to do a lot more of it throughout my lifetime. I have a big heart for people, and want to make a difference in this world. No matter how discouraging our world may be at times, I won't let that stop me from trying to make some sort of difference. I enjoy videography, and recently started up my own business (www.wix.com/dreamit/terminellaproductions). I have a website... and business cards... that means that I have my own business, right?  ;-) I have also really taken an interest to photography lately. I have always loved taking photos, but lately I have really taken more of a "professional" approach to it. (Hmmm, maybe that has something to do with all of the Journalism classes that I am taking.)

Okay, I think that I will end with that. That is a bit "about me" and about some of my interests. Be reassured... future posts will not be so self-centered. I simply thought that I would tell a little bit about myself before I started going on with opinions, thoughts, stories, and so forth in future blogs.

Until next time, bloggers.
